Peter Murphy is a freelance photographer based in New York and New Jersey specializing in portraits for magazines and businesses. His work has appeared in publications such as Time, Wired, Scientific American, and The New York Times among others.
He received a BA in Political Science at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia then moved to New York City where he started in the field as a photo assistant - learning from photographers with wide ranging styles and methods. For several years, he worked as the assistant to legendary photographer Jay Maisel, a true icon in the world of photography.
Focusing on portraiture, Peter launched his own career and has gone on to working for some of the biggest magazines and corporations in the world. His work has received awards from Communication Arts, Nikon, and numerous Art Directors Clubs. In 2018 he received ASMP's award for the best editorial photography of the year.
He currently resides in rural New Jersey. When he's not taking pictures he's raising honey bees.
