Peter Murphy is a freelance photographer based in the New York area who specializes in photographing people for magazines, businesses and ads. His work has appeared in publications such as Time, American Photo, Wired, Salon.com, Communication Arts, GQ, Forbes, and The New York Times among others. Born in New York, studied international politics in Philadelphia, and returned to NYC to pursue his love of photography. For three years he was the assistant to the legendary photographer Jay Maisel where he was often sweeping the corner of Bowery and Spring Street and sometimes flying around the world. He went on to become a location scout for film, video and still work before finally arriving at his current profession - shooting environmental portraits for magazines. He resides with his family in rural New Jersey. When he's not taking pictures, he spends a lot of time fixing his old house. Perhaps his proudest moment came when he passed his first electrical inspection. He's a member of ASMP and currently on the board of ASMP NY.
